In a continuing series of self-portraits entitled Dress Up, I explore identity and gender through the childhood act of dressing up.  Growing up labeled “sissy” or “faggot” by other kids, dress up play was a way to construct characters that normalize difference and replicate normalization.  Using clothes, props, and household items, I created characters which appropriate, blur, and satirize the constructed archetypes of masculinity and femininity.  These characters are situated in the unique position where social and cultural stereotypes of Asian maleness and gay masculinity intersect.
